Black Out

Wow, that was fun. Now I know how how those villiage people live, perhaps in some cabin or some pioneer place far away somewhere in ancient years. Where the people’s don’t believe in electricity or the luxeries of life.  (Ok, I lied, I found a portable cd player in my cupboard).

It brings me back to 2003 during the black out in Toronto and some parts of the US, but that was the US’s fault, just like everything else that goes wrong and then blame other countries…anyway…

When I got home and my power was out, and usually it doesn’t last long the usual maintanance in my building. I was assuming they were doing some sort of repairs in the building. Who knows.  But I walked all the way down the stairs and went to ask my good friend, the landlord..cough..and…side note almost all Romanians are wacked..I know this because most of family is Romanian. And he told me something happened a few blocks west.  So, I waited and waited..and still no power. Then 9pm approached, still no power. I turned on my laptop to check the news online, since the TV and everything else wasn’t working. Since my laptops suck a lot of energy out of the batteries, I had limited time to use the only power operated item from all of the electronics I own.  I eventually learned what happened though. A hydro vault exploded and knocked out power to around 1500 households.

So before it got real dark, and since I was definitly not prepared for this, and I know I should be, cause yooou nevvvvver know.  I walked over to the hardware store and bought a flooding flashlight and candles. And believe it or not ‘high maintanance Joey’ enjoyed it. I had made light of the situation and just relaxed and read in the dark with the flashlight over me. It was soo cool!! And NO you will not find me in some campground. I don’t like camping. I used to enjoy it. My idea of camping is in a hotel room..lol…Anyway, so after the flashlight/plunger/candle shopping I headed over to the grocerystore who was also affected by the power outage but still allowed people to shop in the dark. And what do you know??? I bought brocolli and Rye Pumpernickel Bread..lol..man, it’s so good to be this weird, it gives me the satisifiction of laughing at myself. And realize that I am such a clown.

It was a very odd experience. For one, the houses north of me all had their power restored. So I was assuming all of the south side still had the power out. But it was silent. No sound. I didn’t hear a pin drop. Like in pitch dark forest, it actually felt I was away from the city because I always hear the hustle and bustle of cars driving and sirens. I’m actually getting annoyed with all that noise. I hate the sounds of cars driving etc. I like peace and quiet, and this is coming from someone who loves the city.

I was surprised the power outage lasted as long as it did. I went to bed early. And again, it felt odd without my fan, humidifier and air purifier on. I don’t know what time it was, but the power was restored, I am guessing around 4am, 13 hours after. The power outage happened at 3pm. I even made salad with just the light from the flashlight.

And don’t think for one moment, I wasn’t considering going to a hotel. Because I was..lol..

Peace Out.
